ANTIGONE:-

These laws - I was not about to break them, not out of fear of some man's wounded pride, and face the retribution of the gods.
Die I must, I've known it all my life - how could I keep from knowing? even without your death-sentence ringing in my ears. And if I am to die before my time I consider that a gain. Who on earth, alive in the midst of so much grief as I, could fail to find his death a rich reward? So for me, at least, to meet this doom of yours is precious little pain. But if I had allowed my own mother's son to rot, an unburied corpse-that would have been an agony! This is nothing. And if my present actions strike you as foolish, let's just say I've been accused of folly by a fool.

LEADER:-

Like father like daughter, passionate, wild..
she hasn't learned to bend before adversity.

राजा : (शकुन्तला को देखकर मन ही मन) जैसे मैं इस पर अनुरक्त हूँ, वैसे ही कहीं यह भी तो मुझ पर अनुरक्त नहीं है? यह बात हो सकती है; क्योंकि यह भले ही मेरी बात का उत्तर नहीं देती; फिर भी जब मैं बोलता हूँ तो यह खूब कान देकर सुनती है और भले ही यह मेरे सामने खड़ी नहीं होती, फिर भी इसकी दृष्टि घूम-घूमकर बार-बार मुझ पर ही आकर पड़ती है।

राजा : (मन ही मन) इसने तो यह बात कही और इधर शकुन्तला का स्मरण करके मेरा मन भी शिकार से उचट गया है। क्योंकि अब उन हरिणों की ओर बाण साधकर मुझसे यह धनुष झुकाया नहीं जाता, जिन्होंने प्रियतमा शकुन्तला के पास रहकर उसे भोली चितवनों से देखना सिखलाया है।

राजा: (अभिलाषा के साथ) हे भ्रमर, तुम कभी उसकी बार-बार कांपती चंचल चितवन वाली दृष्टि का स्पर्श करते हो। और कभी उसके कान के पास फिरते हुए धीरे-धीरे कुछ रहस्यालाप-सा करते हुए गुनगुनाते हो। उसके हाथ झटकने पर भी तुम उसके सरस अधरों का पान करते हो । वस्तुतः तुम्हीं भाग्यवान् हो, हम तो वास्तविकता की खोज में ही मारे गए।
